1st time here. A total waste of $30 bucks. It took over 30 minutes for half a dozen peel & eat shrimp that still had the veins and a small plate of gator bites. The "gator bites" where super fried and chewy. The shrimp was supposedly 1/2 lb but it was less than a dozen. For the wait time, the shrimp should have been cleaned properly. They tasted like they were heated up with hot water and thrown on top of some shredded lettuce. The tables were yucky and the decor was very dated. The waitress was trying but the food sucked and so did the wait. It was the 1st and the last time there. Go next door to the sand bar or sunset bar & grill for good service & food. You are paying for the location and not for the food.

Can't speak to the main restaurant but the sky deck was a pleasant lunch break to my day while passing though town for work. Good view of the ocean. Had the fish tacos and the clam chowder. Both were very good. The ladies at the bar were very nice and attentive. Food came out in a very reasonable amount of time. Will definitely be back the next time I am in town.

WORST SERVICE EVER!!!I went there last night and sat at the upstairs outdoor bar. The female bartender working is the rudest server I have ever encountered. She wouldn't recommend anything, she took an hour to give me a menu and never took my order! I spoke to the owners and their response was "we don't like to fire people".

This place is horrible. Took them 45 min to bring out dinner and it was the wrong order . Waitress try very hard to please but the kitchen is all screwed up . Not worth the price or the wait . The food is not fresh and was cold . What a waste of money and time . Can't belie the health dept has not shut this place down yet .

    (1)
  • Amy B.

The wait was horrible. It was well over 50 minutes. The waitress said it was only 20 minutes and the kitchen was doing the best they could. We would have been more understanding if she had been more professional. She kept making excuses. The food was not much better. My husband and mother-in-law ordered taco salads. My mother-in-law said her shell was so bad she'd rather eat a soda cracker. My fish tacos were cold and tasted fishy, like bad fishy. We will never go back.

Unfortunately we made a snap decision to go here without checking Yelp. Don't make the same mistake we made. There are plenty of other places nearby and every last one of them has to be better. Bad service, poorly maintained, highly overpriced, the hat trick of negatives for a restaurant. The blackened fish and blackened shrimp dishes we ordered had zero evidence of being blackened. At $17 and $19 one would, and should, expect a whole lot better. It was edible but I still would have felt taken at half the price. Stay Away!!

This is the grossest place I have ever had the misfortune of eating at. Ordered the clam chowder- it was just milk. My family ordered the seafood gumbo- it was not gumbo, nor was there any seafood in it. The rice was overcooked to the point that it has the consistency of oatmeal and the rue had no flavor. The fried alligator tail was okay.... and it took 45 minutes just to get the appetizers out. By the time that we got to the main dishes, we all just wanted to leave. The burgers are dry, the crab cakes are poorly fried, the french fries are straight out of the freezer, and the shrimp stuffed avocado is half an avocado with 3 cocktail shrimp doused in mayonnaise laying on top. Don't waste your time here, it may be a convinient location, but I'd honestly rather starve. I watched the server try to determine whether or not the drink she was about to serve was sweet ot unsweet tea by sticking a straw in it and drinking it herself before serving it. This place is disgusting.

Really horrible service, tons of bugs. Left after getting our drinks and waiting 30 minutes at the table without being asked to ordered

Outside seating is the best! View of beach is perfect. Service was good. Only ordered beer and nachos to chat with a friend. Nachos were so so but outside on deck was great!

Amazingly Mediocre Food. Terrible Service. High Prices. Outdated decor. Oh! And if your s guy and have to sit down, have fun, no stall and two urinals next to the toilet with no lock on the door. Wouldn't be coming back.

  • Barbara M.

Ewwww! Mediocre food at best- service mediocre- calamari ,scallops, etc on the appetizer platter awful ! Roof top great tho

  • Casey B.

Where to start... Service was slow and generally below average, menu prices were incorrect, and the food had no taste. Oh, and the bathroom has a toilet but no stalls or means of locking the door. Disappointed we went there.

Extremely over priced. This place has a great location but needs Gordon Ramsey's help! Shabby decor, pricey menu, mediocre food. Huge restaurant with no one there. Same with cocktails. Served in small water glass, $ 9.00 good as smoothie terrible as drink, tasted Iike it was alcohol free ordered coconut shrimp appetizer and iced tea. Shrimp was tough, under cooked $9 sweet tea was $2.79 for small water glass. Daughter has burnt conch fritters. She tried the lava drink since it had a good review but as mentioned there wasn't any alcohol in that wee drink. Wish I had checked reviews before going here.

It was good. Not the kind of place that I will rant and rave about for years to come, but I would eat there again if I found myself in Coco Beach. There were three of us. We all ordered crab legs. They gave a decent amount. The waitress keep refilling our sodas and water. We each had homemade key lime pie. It was tasty but a little small.

  • Wendy M.

Food was okay but took an exceedingly long time to arrive. The waitress was rarely seen and never came back to see if we wanted drinks with dinner or dessert.

Boyfriend and I were curious about how such a poorly rated restaurant could still be open and decided to seek out Captain J's out of complete curiousity. As we headed up to the skydeck we were greeted by the smell of old garbage. The skydeck has a decent view of the ocean, but the bar was boarded up and closed due to a power outage. We were directed to go to the downstairs bar, where the stench of dirty mop water was overwhelming. I had to go to the bathroom while boyfriend got us 2 coronas $10. The bathroom was so disgusting I tried not to touch anything and just get out of there. Coronas weren't real cold. The Asian bar tender seemed nice and there was not a long wait for the beers. The place was empty inside and there were a few full tables outside. We looked through the t-shirts and it was just an odd display, lots of empty hangers and all of the racks were just jammed together. We thought it was odd for the place to be so empty during spring break at 6pm with such a prime location. The smell was so horrible we left before we finished our beers and went next door. This place is creepy, dingy, dirty and should be gutted and remodeled.

Honestly can't think of a reason to go back here, ever. Frozen seafood, warm beer, dark and dated interior, and above average prices. Stay away... Too much good food to be eaten in the area to waste your time and money here.

STAY AWAY!!! My fault for staying and eating!! I just hope I don't get sick!! STAY AWAY!!

Rooftop bar offers a good view. Had a few margaritas and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Our bartender was awesome, and if I'm back in the area I'll be a repeat customer.

Food was excellent and the waitress was very attentive. The food arrived soon after we ordered and was piping hot. Next time I'm in cocoa beach, my family and I will be sure to come to captain js

The inside needs updating and it smells like fish. We sat down inside where it was very dark. Seat yourself. The outside top deck patio on sunny days is great because of the beach view. Bathrooms were grungy with no toilet paper and no paper towels.

    (1)
  • Marc C.

Stopped in near closing and was treated right. Sit outside if you can because it doesn't smell right inside; wet wood. Food was good deserving 3 stars, but I will not be back because of the smell. Too bad, this could be a good place.

  • Chelsea S.

The best thing we tried on the menu was the snow crab and salmon with dill sauce. We asked for extra dill sauce for the salmon and never got it. We also ordered the surf and turf and the steak came out the wrong temp we decided not to send the steak back because the service took so long in the first place. Also, dont try the stuffed shrimp it's gross. For 4 people it was 116 dollars. My advice, go to a corporate chain restaurant they know what their doing and for that kind of money, it would be well spent. Joe's crab shack or Red Lobster would have been a million times better.

  • Mike C.

Went here for lunch. Ordered a Bloody Mary and French dip sandwich. No French dip available...sold out (at noon?) Ordered a NY strip sandwich, which come with fries. Bloody Mary arrived, tasted good but the 3 olives should have been on some sirt of toothpick. They were just thrown in loose. Lunch arrives. NY strip??!! Hardly. Very tough and fatty. Pulled it out of the roll and attempted to cut it with s knife. Got a bite or two, but the knife was unable to slice through the gristle. As for the fries, at best they were a cheap, frozen crinkle cut from Publix....waitress(who was very nice) asked how it was. I was honest... 3/4 of the meal was still on the plate. Asked for check. I figured some reduction in the bill But no. Captain J, yer off the list.

Worst place EVER!! We are local Floridians, and we heard the bad reviews but wanted to try it out for ourselves. Food took forever which was crazy because it was dead. The bartender told us he didn't know what he was doing and the chef (in pic attached) came to say hello before we left. As we pulled away we saw him LEANING on the dumpster smoking. That about sums up our "never will be back to this local place again" review.

  • Janelle D.

We walked upstairs to many unhappy faces. We had to track down someone to find out that we could seat ourselves for several minutes. THEN we find a table, the chairs are all wet. I went to the bar to ask for a towel or napkins (not asking them to clean up) and was given the "wait" finger as the woman just stood there. I looked at her confused and repeated my question to get a response of, "we're behind and will get to you in a minute." I'm pretty sure it took her longer to say that than to hand me a towel. I walked back to my table and a gentleman at a nearby table said we would be waiting at least an hour for our food. My mom said someone told her an hour an a half. It's pretty bad when multiple strangers warn you of poor service as you walk into a restaurant. So we left. We should have guessed the level of service when we saw their sign.

I hated it... absolutely hated it. Will NOT be returning because I care about my internal organs. At first when I couldn't speculate the spices and seasonings added to the burger I was eating, it hit me, there are literal suds of soap dripping from the side of the bun. Yeah, fricken soap soaking in the bun. Needless to say I returned it and got free drinks for the rest of the night. I'm sure I ingested a minimal amount of rat poison, but I'll discuss that matter later with my family's physician who I will write a review about later tomorrow afternoon after seeing him.

This place was horrible. Service from Jennifer B really took the cake as worst ever in my experience. Usually when you enter a place with a TripAdvisor sticker on the front door, you'll have a great meal. Apparently they should remover the sticker. Food was over priced and lukewarm. I ordered a chef's salad, and like the tuna carpaccio, it was not at the right temperature. Sorry, I don't feel like having food poisoning at the beach all day. Luckily she took the salad off. The only good thing was my husband's peel and eat shrimp. The coconut shrimp was bland, the shrimp stuffed avocado salad was bland and the avocado was old and brown. Nothing was fresh. Friend's Golden Margarita literally tasted like crap. I mean I spit it out after a sip. Now here's the best part. Jennifer B charged us gratuity on our party of 4, when the menu clearly states on 6 or more. Not only that, my friend and I split the check and paid with credit cards. She took the liberty to write in her gratuity because it doesn't automatically charge when paying with a credit card. Big Fat NO NO!! You bet we will be checking our statements in the next couple of days to make sure she didn't write the tip in for herself again. This is my review from TripAdvisor. I am a Yelp! member as well and just thought I would like to share to those on here whom aren't on TripAdvisor to warn of this place. DO NOT GO!!, instead, go to Sandbar right next door. That place is really good no wonder Captain J's needed to post the sign of parking only!

AVOID! AVOID! I wish I had read the reviews before taking my hungry, beach-worn family here. The staff is extremely unprofessional and quite rude. The food is sketchy, their knowledge of beach drinks is laughable. Scary, outdated, and hygienically challenged. I'm only giving it one star because I can't give it zero.

  • Sarah C.

this place is absolutely horrible. I've never been to a seaside restaurant with old, dirty oysters and only serve steamed clams which weren't anything special. the service was unattentive and the atmosphere wasn't anything that a tourist would want to spend their money on. the drinks were bad and overpriced. food took forever and just wasn't a good time. I would suggest driving to new Smyrna beach and getting better seafood, drinks and service !

    (1)
  • Dana W.

Actually Zero Stars would be more appropriate. They never even waited on us. We finally just left. The three waitresses were just standing there, not waiting on any tables. We gave them about 20 minutes before leaving. On our way out I overheard them complaining about one of their customers. I've never been blatantly ignored by waitresses until now. Absurd!!

RESTAURANT IMPOSSIBLE NEEDS TO PAY THIS PLACE A VISIT! We spent the day at the beach and remembered there was two restaurants within walking distance. We were walking in from the back of the restaurant from the beach as we were coming in we saw a nice special which is what made us inclined to eat at Captain J's instead of the next restaurant over. As soon as we walked in we noticed it was very out dated and dingy looking. We saw there was a deck from outside so we went straight up stairs. The upper deck has a wonderful view over looking the ocean along with a full bar. After seating ourselves we had our waiter come over right away to take our drink order. After getting our drinks we asked about the special that originally inclined us to eat there for our waiter to say "oh that's only a lunch special" we then asked if there was any dinner specials and our waiter said I don't know if we have specials or what they are. While waiting for food we hear our waiter say sorry I had to put your salad on what I could find because we ran out of salad plates (they were not busy) we waited an hour for our food (wings, chicken tenders and a sandwich) when the food finally came out the wings were cold and soggy as if they were reheated in a microwave. Everything we got was previously frozen including the shrimp sandwich. After telling the waiter about the cold food he took it and made a face as if we were bothering him and didn't once apologize or try to offer something else. I had to ask if he could take it off the bill, I wasn't going to wait another hour for food anyways. The service was horrible from the waiter not knowing anything to our waiter talking to another table next to us as we were talking to him. The staff was very unhappy and it showed by how they gave you dirty looks as they passed. Our meal ended up being $41 for 3 people and that is with one entree being removed. Expect to pay $20 per meal for frozen cold food, and if you get an appetizer that ranges from $8 to $15 and you have to add $3.99 per person to share your appetizer. So for an $8 appetizer you will be paying $16 to "share" between 3 people. But the cherry on top didn't come until we decided to take a bathroom break after eating. Walking into the bathroom as disgusting and I have seen cleaner bathrooms at gas stations. There was no toilet paper except for one roll. We literally had to pass toilet paper back and forth until the stall. I do not recommend. Run far far away.

Something at the core of this restaurant is very very wrong. There was clear strife going on behind the scenes, and it was carried into the dining room by every server on the floor. The food was not worth the money whatsoever. There is clearly an ownership/managerial issue at hand here.

    (1)
  • Maritza V.

Is there a way not to rate this location? We didnt even get seated, got the cold shoulder from not 1 but 5 workers. I'm so glad we didnt try eating there. Im not even sure why anyone would try eating here. We ended up down the street at a local seafood place.

Restaurant and view are great as is the food! I have noticed however, that the owner (or whoever makes the schedule) likes to send people home at bad times. Case in point, spring break. You would think that is the time when you want to have the most people on deck (more than two), but I have seen him send servers home because he doesn't want to pay them (minimum wage) to stand around for 15 minutes. Pretty cheap if you ask me. I think that the best approach to reduce the amount of negative feedback (although creative at times) is to have better scheduling so that there are servers around when people typically show up (normal planning). If the place was better run, it would certainly be the go to spot for most of cocoa beach.

  • F T.

The WORST!! Takes the effing cake!!! If you pull into the parking lot, just gas it and leave as fast as you can!!! I'm not even waiting to taste my food to write this because the service sucks that bad!!! Every table around me is not happy!!! Why did I even stay!! Don't come here unless your drunk, not hungry, and dumb!! Our waitress, when we finally got one, was ok because she saw how pissed I was.. Save yourself the aggregation and go someplace else. Even McDonald's gives better service in the ghetto!!!

    (1)
  • Andrew M.

Resturant was not very clean and felt run down. The service was slow. Our waitress had her kid there and he ran up to her while she was taking our order which was a little strange. The food was over priced and not that good.

    (1)
  • Zanna H.

Um yea.... when you get more of a buzz from the Marsala wine in the sauce on your steak then the frozen/sort-of blended "drink" (ice-block would be more accurate)... Houston we have a problem. Need I elaborate further on a bad meal? Other than to say that the service was equally bad.

    (1)
  • David C.

I enjoyed sitting on the deck at the tiki bar watching the waves roll in; the food's okay but nothing to rave about. They were out of oysters when I went with my girlfriend. The main problem is the attentiveness of the staff. We had to wait close to 15 minutes before our waitress greeted us! Management needs to step up on their server training, imo.

  • Richard T.

Absolutely Disgusting. This place hasn't seen a bottle of Lestoil in 10 years! This filthy place even looks like a mold spore incubator.. Just get a closer look at the dusty, dirty plastic flowers and trees.. The evening that we had our unfortunate encounter I do not even think that the air conditioning was working. Big, loud, annoying fans added to the ambience. I would bet that all of the food is pre-packaged frozen and stuck into the deep fry. Our fried clams & coconut shrimp were totally inedeble. This place is just a totally overpriced tourist trap. Very overpriced with lousy food .. Nothing more, and I have no idea why we actually stayed for the gross meal! Cocoa has some pretty good places to eat, this just ain't one of 'em. Ignore the location, move on.. You can go down the road to the Cocoa Beach Pier for some much better (and fairer priced!) seafood & burgers..

  • Juliana C.

I won't even give this place a star but I guess its the minimum. Other than great location, this place is a complete whole. I went in looking to have lunch and was greeted by an uninterested waitress. She was very rude and even had an attitude when I attempted to order a drink. I walked out before I even finished my water.Don't be fooled by the nice rooftop deck. This place sucks.

    (1)
  • Pj K.

AWFUL! If I had not just pulled out my phone as I sat down and ordered this whole damn debacle could have been avoided! Drinks were as tasty as the sand on Cocoa Beach. This place was a joke, because the waitress even gave us the drink and described it as, "toilet water." Epic fail on all fronts. Good thing we did not buy food.... Worst decision ever!

  • Nicholas R.

We were leaving the beach for the day and prior to heading back to the cruise ship we were enticed to head up to Captain J's for some drinks by their seductive roof deck (which does have an excellent view of the ocean). Unfortunately when you take your seat and look upon the Atlantic the high point of your Captain J's experience has been reached. The waitress approached us and my fiance asked her if they had any drink specials the waitress very surly said "No, we never do and pointed to the ocean and said that was their drink special". We ended up ordering a couple beers which took about 15 minutes to find their way to our table. When they arrived we ordered nachos (big mistake). In the mean time we each went to the restroom where we discovered shabby, unclean restrooms that were baron of paper towels and hot water. Returning to our seats we were greeted with bargain, store bought tortilla chips topped with movie theater Cheeze Whiz, a can of black olives, and some poor quality mild salsa. Concluding, if you crave a great view with awful nachos and surly waitresses this is the place for you! If that is not your forte do not be drawn in by there roof deck and excellent local, I was a victim of this because I was thirsty, a bit peckish, and in too much of a spontaneous mood to consult yelp.

Seriously folks, if you've ever eaten at a beachside grille you know not to set the bar high. This place was about par for the course: The service was ok, the food was ok, the beer was cold. It's convenient, it's decent, but don't walk in expecting to be "wowed."

    (2)
  • Joshua S.

Been here three or four times over the last few years and these last couple times it has really went downhill. The first time last month was just for a quick drink and a view so I had nothing to go on. The bartender wasn't friendly even after I left a $3 tip on a $4 drink. Whatever. I just wanted to stare at the ocean. I stopped back a few weeks ago because Sandbar was packed and I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. I sat under one of those thatched roofs outside. The waitress was not friendly at all and seemed preoccupied visiting another server. I finally got my burger with a warm cup of Mayo (barf) and I couldn't even finish the burger because it tasted like how a disinfectant wipe smelled. I drove back to Orlando later in the day and felt like I had a knife in my stomach. Not sure if it's from their food but overall it was gross. It's too bad because they have a prime location and if they upped the customer service and cleanliness I think they could do well.

Horrible place. Wait staff are extremely rude and lazy. Management does not care and was told by someone that the cook does not wear gloves or a hair net. Please stay away from this place.

The service is based on how drunk you want to get, the food is horrible. I ordered a caesar salad w/ ranch and got watered down ranch. Absolutely disgusting and a waste of money. Additionally the employees are horrible on the eyes. Next place might be better

  • Curt H.

Please think of this place as a local Smalltown comfort food type of place. Food was good, but not cheap. 2 adults, 2 teens and we had a bill north of $100. Bottled beers @8.50? Nice place but only 3. Not offended, just expected more for the $$$.

I'm glad I didn't look at the Yelp reviews before going to eat here - it didn't look as unclean as others suggested. We were hungry and tired after a long day of sightseeing and happened to spot this place right on the beach. The decor is dated/kitschy and the night-time lighting leaves something to be desired, but I found the service and food was good. They serve delicious fried gator tail and crab cakes (we got them broiled, which was excellent). My ahi tuna steak was fine, although not the best I've ever had, but my fiance's stuffed flounder (or was it grouper?) was great. My only complaint was that both times I ordered a beer, they brought me the wrong kind. It's like the servers weren't paying attention.

  • Annika A.

This place is horrible. Great view but that's it. I sat at the bar upstairs and waiter for the bartender to finish up her conversation with the other 4 people at the bar. It took about 10 mins before she asked us what we'd like to drink. Every word that came out of her mouth was profanity. Definitely not the laid back beach bar I was looking for... Oh and the drinks suck!!!

  • Keith K.

Just terrible. Service was bad, food was under cooked and runny, and prices are jacked because of location. Walk the extra mile to burger king before going here!

Good food, good service, nice atmosphere. Had charbroiled burger, which was great, and servers were friendly.

  • Steve D.

This place is terrible. Only went here because Sand Bar next door was too crowded. I ordered a $7 mojito, which according to the menu, was supposed to be muddled with sugar and mint leaves. Ended up getting a way too sour "mojito" made from a cheap premix. Food was overly expensive and not worth it at all. Someone in my party ordered stuffed shrimp - the shrimp were small and the pieces of "stuffing" were pea-sized. The coconut shrimp were pretty good, but again, not worth the money (think it was $16). Our waitress was slow, she constantly forgot our drink orders, etc. She offered to split our check (we had 8 people), but when we handed her our cash/cards, we didn't get our change and receipts back for about another 40 minutes. The waitress was walking around and taking other people's orders while we were literally waiting for 40 minutes to close out! Crazy, and she barely apologized. She offered some half-ass excuse on how she accidentally recombined our bill and it took her 40 minutes to figure it out again. Never coming back to this place!

    (1)
  • Amanda S.

Service was horrible there was only one other person here and it took forever for our waitress to come around and bring us what we needed. The burger wasn't the best but my husbands fried bread sandwich was good. Make sure you do not drink a lot because they take too long to refill your drinks.

Let me start by saying, the one star is for the cool pirate at the entrance. If you go beyond the pirate, you are on your own. This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. We went to the Sandbar next door originally not knowing that it was Sandapalooza and the place was packed with no seating. Since we had never been to Captain J's, decided to give it a shot. As soon as we sat down, our friends daughter complained that something was biting her. We ignored it, until I started getting bit as well. Sand fleas!! I had bug spray in my purse and we sprayed our legs. We were seated inside the restaurant! My husband ordered the shrimp avocado salad which were 4 medium shrimp in half of a Hass avocado (tiny) with a couple of strands of iceburg lettuce. Was supposed to be topped with mango. No mango! The shrimp were not pink, but white. No seasoning. Very bland. $9. I had the ahi tuna, also $9. It was passable. Not much to it. Our friend had the crab cake sandwich which looked overfried and he only ate half of it. The waitress did return 2x to refresh our ice tea (she only had one other table), but once it came time to pay the bill, we couldn't find her. Waited about 20 minutes before we went to the bar to pay. This restaurant is very dated. There is a stage that had boogie boards and skim boards stored on it for sale and a corner of the bar/restaurant area had racks of t-shirts for sale. Looked like an afterthought. Just throw some junk around and hope it sells. It is a great location, but unfortunately if they don't make some major changes, they won't be there much longer. Wish we had waited for a table at the Sandbar or gone somewhere else. Upon leaving, realized that the bug spray had worked because they had bitten her arms up. Poor thing left covered in welts from all the bites. Run, don't walk away from this place!

  • T M.

Don't do it! Yes, you're starving and in need of shade, and this restaurant is right on the beach, but for the love of all things tasty and delicious, get in your car and go somewhere else. The parts of your body tasked with processing food items will thank you later. The food is bland and fried (and not fried all that well, either), which is all that can be said about it. Drink-wise, I would also avoid the pre-packaged, frozen-ice abominations. It does have a bathroom that isn't the parks department public affair, which gives it an extra star. This place feels run down, much like the town itself.

    (2)
  • Conway B.

The service was bad but the food was just okay. We sat at the bar because the A/C was not working very well and it was cooler there. The bar tender was great but it took over an hour to get our food.

  • Tim Z.

The food was not too bad and the beer was cold, that's about the best thing I can say about the place. An old style Florida Restaurant with interesting but very dated decor. The staff was (generally) horrible. They constantly fought in plain view, worried more about which table belongs to who than any customer needs. A total lack of management. There was one jewel (our waitress, after the original one threw down our menus and never returned). If you need a beer and some food really bad and you can't make it anywhere else, good luck. Otherwise, I'd pass on this place.

OK, OK, if I had read any of the other reviews I would never have stopped here. It's true that I was starving and wanted to feel the ocean breezes on my face and that's exactly why we chose this dive. Go sit up on the deck on a sunny day and order something simple. No, no, no not the salad, all you'll get is ice burg and some prepackaged dressing. You know beachy food, burgers, grouper sandwiches that type of thing. I nearly died when I saw someone ordering the mushroom soup, but they were French...enough said. And stick to beer, it's cold but if you want a glass you'll have to ask for one.

Unfortunate victims we were. We're on vacation from Seattle and looking for a "place on the beach" to eat. Well, there aren't many at Cocoa Beach. And, we did not have access to a computer to read reviews ahead of time, alas. The kids were starving so we stopped. Right away it's a "red flag" when you walk in the main entrance. It looks like a graveyard. But upstairs, there was a deck and a steel drum singer. And, people were there, so it can't be that bad, right? We were told to seat ourselves. We then waited, and waited, and waited..a half hour for someone to show up at our table. We almost walked (and wished we had) when she showed up. By now, we are absolutely famished. We order from the overpriced menu of limited choices, the kids order kid's meals. The waitress comes back with my salad and a small loaf of molasses bread, but there was no silverware, and I waited 10 minutes before she came back so I could tell her we needed silverware. We each got about one small slice, and my kids shared my salad. After that, we waited 45 minutes for our dinners, not once did the waitress come back and check on us, to refill our waters, give us more bread, nothing. However we saw her standing around the bar chatting with the other waitresses, even though she had several tables to wait on, or she would zoom BY our table not even glancing to see if we needed anything. We finally got the attention of the busboy, to PLEASE bring us another paltry loaf of bread and another salad, at least. She shows up with it and our meals. We don't think the food was that bad, there just wasn't much of it for the prices. The tab came to $53 for two adults and two kids..and everyone was still hungry. Sad. Bathrooms were horrid. Stalls do not lock, no toilet paper, the water did not come out of the faucets, no soap (HEALTH DEPARTMENT, ANYONE?) and no one that works there seems to care.

The first sign should have been a warning, being told that it would be an hour before we'd be able to eat, however we were given a table for 10 immediately. Second sign should have been when the waitress admitted she was so tired from the day that she was going to pull up a seat while taking our drink order. Drinks were served shortly after along with loaves of their pumpernickel bread. This was the best part of the meal and likely the last favorable thing I have to say about the experience. Don't be fooled by the location on the water. From their menu prices I had higher expectations for their menu choices. For those of us that opted for salad as a side, they didn't warn that it was a soup and salad combination. At least that is all I can think of when I noticed each bite of my iceberg dripping with water. I decided to drain the inch water and filled dressing ramekin with water and then some. I looked over and noticed the others who had ordered salad had not finished theirs even 1/2 way for the same reason. I regret not taking a picture to post on my review. About this time our waitress informed us they were all out of coleslaw and asked us for our preference for a substitution. Most settled for nothing or the french fries. The margarita ordered was more like a frozen limeade. The ice tea was never refilled (during the hour we were there). Before our meal was delivered the cook came to our table and announced they had run out of sweet potatoes and strongly suggested the baked potato was a suitable replacement as if to convince us we would like it. No, actually that's not acceptable. The waitress also advised she coaxed the manager into making some more coleslaw for us. Ok, make it coleslaw then! Meanwhile, my husband went searching for the rest room and on the way was stopped by an employee, and before he could ask for its location, she says, "What sir? Are you still waiting for your server?" (Which makes the third red flag). I ordered scallops and they were a grave disappointment. My steamed vegetables never came near to a steamer as they were ice cold. One of the guys in our party ordered the surf and turf with his steak rare or "still grazing" as he put it. Guess what? Yeah it came out well done. So everyone else had finished their meal by the time he got to eat his. I'm thinking the cook must have still been fixed on convincing customers they should order the baked potato rather than sweet potatoes--or some other distraction from the kitchen. Overall, I'm thinking Chili's would have provided a better dining experience for the $234.00. Note: We avoid chain dining and are always looking to support the local business'. Ok, alright- so it was a busy weekend with the Atlantis launch. Location on the beach was that of a mirage--to think we might get to partake some of the best local fare the area has to offer. If only I had thought to Yelp, I may have been able to steer the crowd away from dining here, based on the previous reviews alone. The only pleasure to be taken away from eating there was the company of those at the table. To our British friends, I hope you were able to find some other enjoyable dining experiences during your visit, and that your view of Florida seafood dining is not skewed by this experience. To those still considering dining here- go to the first review here and read line one again! To Captain J's I say you are doing the public a great disservice by not closing your business. It's obviously not getting better over the years. This establishment is not even worth the one star rating. Shut your doors NOW!

Just had lunch here. Too bad the great location isn't matched by the food or service. The food is clearly frozen then fried. The salad came out of a bag, no uniqueness here. Served in plastic bowls with plastic utensils. Kinda hard to cut a steak sandwich with a plastic knife. Appeared to be lots of staff....not doing much. Service was slow but friendly. Drinks are reasonably priced and good. This is a drinking place, not an eating place.....

We waited about an hour for our food to come. We were unsure at first if they even saw us come in and waited awkwardly at our table until we asked for our menus. The server woman, however, was very nice to us. We felt badly for her because it seemed to us that the cooks were being lazy/rude. The food was okay but there was no reason for us to wait 50+ minutes for it.

I can't give this restaurant that great of a review. We saw this location online when we were traveling through and some of us were not to pleased. The entire place was empty and it did not have a pleasant smell. We had the gator bites which were good and the grilled shrimp. The cheese burgers I do not recommend and the fries were not fresh. The food tasted as if it was frozen and deep fried. As for the customer service, it was great. The gal was very nice and seemed to enjoy her job but I couldn't help but feel bad for her serving in such a poor managed restaurant. This place has a lot of potential and needs new menu items and fresher food for being right on the ocean.

Worst beach restaurant ever! We came in for the special which our server had no clue what it was. In fact she insisted they didn't sell that particular itam at all. So we walked her over to the Special board and showed her. They were out of several items we wanted. We ordered several appetizers and 2 specials. Plus drinks 2 blue moons which our served with orange slices. The first beers had them not the 2nd, server said that they had run out of oranges when asked. Then the next beers had them. She was unfamiliar with the menu and full of excuses. I'm not certain but I think she was a little Hoped up on something but that's just my thoughts. No pre bussing. We had to hunt her down for our bill. Got the wrong bill had to hunt again. Then again for our change, which I guess she assumed was her tip. Then when she brought me my change asked if I was going to tip. Really? I normally tip at least 20%but I'm sad to say I had a hard time doing 10%. Food was bland. To bad because it's a great location.

Awesome blackened mahi sandwiches and bloody marys. Great staff with fun personalities... Perfect spot for drinks and lunch during a day at the beach.

One star is over-rating this catastrophe. We wanted to eat next door but it was packed. Not a seat to be had. So, the easy thing was to walk next door to Captain J's. Waited 20 mins for 2 glasses of wine. Overheard a waitress apologizing to the table next to us for their delayed drink order that the bar was 'backed up"...uh, no. 20 seats at the bar, two occupied with drinks in front of them, 18 empty seats. 1/2 the tables on the deck were empty. Wine arrived and we ordered our dinners. The backed up bartender then started waiting on tables. That's when I started reading the Yelp reviews. Basically the worst reviews I have read on Yelp. Had I read them before , we never would have come. While waiting for our dinner, overheard at the table next to us: Waitress: "How is everything?" Patron: " My dinner is practically inedible." Waitress: "Oh sorry....thanks for eating it anyway." Wasted an hour here and still no food. That's when we left money on the table for our wine and walked out. Tried again next door but it was still packed. Ended up at a GREAT seafood place so the evening was saved but seriously...RUN from Captain J's. The bad reviews are all true.

This place is overpriced and the food is terrible. Their stuffed shrimp were not butterflied nor did they have much stuffing at all. Rice pilaf bland. Potato must have been from two days ago. Super hard. Crab cakes bland and fishy. The only thing that was decent was the side salad. Paid 53 dollars for two terrible meals and two flat pepsi's! You should be ashamed of owning a place serving terrible food. I guess they think they can because of the view. Go to Florida seafood bar and grill. You won't be disappointed! Always great food and service!!!!

Should have read the reviews! Food was just okay. Kids enjoyed their meal. Sat upstairs hoping to have a view. However, found that it's not a very kid-friendly place. We were not there late (6pm), so I expected it to be okay for the kids. However, while we sat at the table I heard the words douche, bulls**t and f**k come out of the female bartenders mouth. Not very professional even if it were a late night establishment much less a beachside restaurant.

Place is a catastrophe. Food is horrible ..... Service is worse. Don't waste your time or money going there. Definitely the worst place in Cocoa Beach.
